Gesa Stedman was born in England and lives and works in Berlin. She has always been interested in crossing social, cultural, and geographical borders.
She works across different media, including painting, drawing, collage and paper sculpture. Her work deals with the tension between line, surface, and space. It uses black and white or vibrant colours in different techniques to move people to think critically about the impact of the past on the present and she often finds inspiration for her art work in research projects. Currently, she is working on a series entitled “Objects of Soft Power: The Diplomat’s Bag”, which takes objects inherited from her Canadian-British grandfather as a starting point to explore imperial violence.
